The Lady and the Liar

I have been waiting for this since forever. This drama stars Tang Yan, Hawick Law, Tony Yang, and Rong Yang (Yang Rong in Chinese). It takes place in the past like around when China first started getting involved with the Japanese and Western things. Looking at the girl in white's clothes, you can kind of get an idea of the period. The basic plot is Girl in White plays a poor magician, who is dating a blind guy, or the guy on the left. Girl in White helps Wolf (the guy on the left), so he falls in love with her. She doesn't like him. The blind guy decides to go cure his eye in Europe. During this time, she learns she is actually the granddaughter of the richest guy in Tokyo, so she boards a train to return home. She meets a thief or Girl in Black on the train. Due to the train getting into an accident, Girl in Black steals Girl in White's identity, while Girl in White loses her memory. Wolf uses this chance and lies to her saying he is her fiancee. I love this drama. Hawick, or Wolf, is my favorite person in the drama. He was thought to be a cold guy in the beginning but is actually the warmest person on Earth for the girl he loves. When he talked softly to the girl, his voice was so warm and soothing. He is also Yangmi's wife, and they recently had a daughter. 

Legend of Fragrance

This is Tang Yan's year, with 3 dramas, the first being My Sunshine, and the 2nd, The Lady and the Liar. This drama stars of course Tang Yan, as well as the rising star, Li Yi Feng, the HK singer,  William Chen, and  Shu Chang. It takes place in a similar time as The Lady and the Liar, where they have their hair cut and not in a braid. Warning: If you don't want to read my long summary, please skip to the next bold words. The male lead, Li Yi Feng, or bad-nose boy, since he can't smell along with his younger twin sister, is the heir to a perfume/incense business. In the past, his father tried to kill her fiancee's sweetheart, only for her beloved woman to die from him. This caused the sweetheart to want to take revenge. He has an adoptive son, William Chen. Tang Yan plays a strong-willed girl whose job is to pick flowers but has a good nose. Of course, how can a drama be without at least a triangle? In this case, it is a square. The last person involved is Shu Chang, who plays a Japanese girl.  In short, it is Romeo and Juliet in a world centered around perfume.  You shall see why it is a Romeo and Juliet. 

The Empress of China

This is a high production drama with gorgeous people and clothes. It really shows off the designs of the robes ad their jewelry. It stars A-list actress, Fan Bing Bing, Janine Chang, Aarif Rahman, Kathy Chow, Li Li Ren, and more. This drama talks about the life of the only empress of China, Wu Zhe Tian. It is filled with hatred among the consorts and a lot of romance. Wu Ru Yi (Fan Bing Bing), her name in the beginning was well-loved by the emperor. After his death, she is sent to a temple to become a nun but returns to the palace as the new emperor's consort. She slowly becomes stronger and more evil and betrays her husband to become the only empress to be the ruler of China.

Cruel Romance

This drama stars Taiwanese actress Chen Qiao En, Huang Xiao Ming, Qiao Kimi, and more. The plot of this drama is that a girl comes to Shanghai to find the murderer of her family. There she is entangled with all the 1% of Shanghai. Zhuo Zhen, the guy on the left, is a seemingly cold leader that treats his brothers (underlings) kindly that also only wants the best for Shanghai, despite killing to achieve this. He encounters the girl multiple times and then falls in love with her. Despite being rejected too many times, he still helps her and loves her just as much, or even more. Huang Xiao Ming, the actor that plays Zhuo Zhen, is really handsome and his character became my favorite character ever. He helps her out so much and never gets mad at her. Of course, as you see in the picture, there is a love triangle love heptagon (7).

Love You Thousands of Silk

This drama has a relatively new cast. In this drama, the female lead's father is said to have embezzled money from their company. One rich man from Thailand, and a good friend of her parents, decide to give her enough money to cover up the embezzlement in exchange for her marriage to his son. His son left home after being rejected by her in England, so he thinks with her at home, he would stay at home and work hard at his company. She agrees to go to Thailand and marry him but ends up falling in love with his other son, who loves her back. In Thailand, she finds out that her father's case isn't as simple as it seems. I like the drama because of the dad and not anyone else. He acts so nice to her, but she keeps finding evidence to prove he is evil. Now I have to wait for the episodes to be all out so I can see the ending.

Tiger Mom



Tiger Mom means a mom who is extremely strict on their kids. In this drama, the tiger mom is successful at work, has a loving husband, and a cute daughter. Because of the couple's busy schedule, their daughter, Qian Qian, grew up in her grandparent's house. She is the princess of the family and only knows about being a princess and talking down on "witches," or people who don't dress nicely. One day, her mother suddenly realizes how behind her daughter is, compared to other kids in her age group, when she accompanies her friend to her son's elementary school interview. She decides to try to get her daughter into Primary School 1, or the best school in the city. Her husband, the cat, thinks that their daughter should just be happy and worry about such things like studying, later. He keeps on getting in her plan's way. The drama talks about the mother's struggle to help change her daughter's bad habits and get her into Primary School 1.

Best Get Going



With the increasing numbers of graduating college students, competition for an internship is hard enough. Most of the Fortune 500 companies in China have already announced that they will not accept any interns, so college students are going insane thinking about getting into a good company. Song Nuan is a girl that came to Shanghai for college and is working hard to get a job so she can stay. Her parents moved to Shanghai to be with her and give her moral support but they end up fighting when the father can only find work as a housekeeper. Three other people also want to get a job. JM, a really famous company, decides to accept interns and all four of them start their internship there. They face hardships and end up fighting at times. How will their internship end? Will they ever get a job? Will they still be friends? How will their love life work out?

Tornado Girl or Taekwondo Girl or Whirlwind Girl

I can barely hide my excitement for this drama.
Qi Bai Cao's taekwondo teacher, Xu Xiang Nan won the World Taekwondo Competition but is found to have taken drugs before the competition, so he lost his right to be a teacher and to ever compete again. He is now the disgrace of Anyang, a city where Taekwondo is the heart of the city. Bai Cao continues to serve her teacher and doesn't believe that her teacher took drugs, even though his wife died because of a miscarriage from hearing the news and his daughter hates him after her death. Bai Cao practices every day and quickly captures the attention of the people from Song Ban, one of the best Taekwondo schools around. She meets three guys. Ruo Bai is the head disciple and is a more talented coach than a competitor. Ting Hao is a handsome, rich, genius taekwondo competitor. Then there is Chu Yuan, a gentle medical student that is even more of a genius at taekwondo than Ting Hao. What will happen when all three of them fall for her as she tries to be the best female taekwondo competitor ever.
The best part of this drama is the guys. There is actually one more extremely cute guy name Wu Lei who plays Yi Feng, a talented taekwondo competitor also in Song Ban.
Update:
Season 2 came out and I am sooo disappointed. The first Whirlwind Girl was so good but in the second season, Bai Cao is played by a different actress and Ruo Bai is out of the story and replaced with another trainer played by Ji Chang Wook. I still gave it a try and I have concluded that it doesn't hold a candle to the first season.

Er Tai Shi Dai (二胎时代)

Synopsis:
Basically, it talks about having a second kid.
 Jin Can Can (王晓晨 or Wan Xiao Cheng) is under thirty but already has a daughter that is 5. She got pregnant right when she graduated so she gave up getting a job to care for her daughter. She finally gets a job as an interior designer after her daughter goes to pre-school, she learns that she is once again pregnant. Living in her mother's house, they now realize that they will have to move if they are going to have a second child. She wants to show the world that even though she is going to have a second child against her mother and husband's opposition, nothing is going to change. She switches between full-time and part-time and unemployed to care for both children. She wants her daughter to understand that she will love her just the same even with her new brother. She is a great mother and a kind person but because of financial issues and disagreement between her in-laws and her, she has trouble keeping the peace in the family.

Wu Xin: The Monster Killer

This drama stars a relatively new cast. The male lead is so cute and has a great body. I saw the trailer at first because people say it is really good, but I was so bored of the trailer. However, I decided to give it a try and I actually like it quite a bit. For the most part, this drama has romance, friendship, revenge, and scary scenes but it does have times when it gets deep. Dramafever and Viki have this drama.
Synopsis:
Wu Xin is immortal but will sleep every 100 years and will wake up remembering nothing of the past. Also, if he gets chopped into pieces, he will grow back naturally. One day, he meets Yue Ya, who gives him the last of her food. To repay her kindness, he tries to earn money by removing spirits and other creepy things using his blood, which injures the spirits. He also accidentally opens up the grave of Yue Qi Ruo, a young girl who was sealed underground for a hundred years and she falls for him and decides to do whatever she has to gain his love.
Comments:
Even though I just said that the male lead is super cute and I adore him, no one can compare to my favorite character, General Gu. He is the favorite of many. He is such a jewel. He is so funny and his bond with Yue Ya and Wu Xin is much more than just even best friends; they are like family.
Also, if you like Lakorns or Thai music, Mike D. Angelo from Full House is in this drama. Also,  there will be a second season soon.

Diamond Lover

This drama was a commercial success in Mainland China and I remember watching it when I was in China. Mi Mei Li (Tang Yan) is a fat, ugly designer who develops a crush on the rich and handsome Xiao Liang (Rain). However, due to a car accident, she had to undergo a plastic surgery procedure and transformed into a skinny, beautiful girl now known as Mi Duo. She ends up working at Xiao Liang's company, which specializes in diamond accessories. She ends up being entangled in a power struggle between Xiao Liang and his half-brother for the company. She also befriends a beautiful and popular actress, Gao Wen (Dilmurat Dilraba). She also has to hide the fact that she lives with her best friend Lei Yi Ming (Luo Jin). Now as a beautiful girl, will Xiao Liang return her love, or do looks really not matter?
To be brutally honest, I was so disappointed with the main leads and their relationship. I only continued watching this drama because of the supporting characters, Lei Yi Ming and Gao Wen. The two of them are hilarious and their acting is on point. You might be reading the synopsis and be like "are those last two sentences really necessary." I know it sounds weird but I love them so much that I had to include them one way or another. Luo Jin and Dilmurat Dilraba are incredible actors. Also, Tang Yan and Luo Jin are now a couple in real life. Congrats to them both. If you like the two, watch Princess of Wei Young. 

Nirvana In Fire

I am so late on this bandwagon, but better late than never because this is one of the best historical Chinese dramas ever.

During the Datong era of the Southern Liang Dynasty, Northern Wei sent the Chi Yan army southward under the command of General Lin Xie and his son, Lin Shu (Hu Ge). Lin Xie was framed by a political rival and deemed a rebel. His political rivals attacked him and his army of seventy thousand soldiers. Barely anyone survived that battle. One of the few is Lin Shu. With the help of Lang Ya Hall, Lin Shu was saved. However, due to the removal of the poison from his body, Lin Shu ended up looking nothing like before and became very weak. Despite not being able to fight, he still possessed great wit. He became the head of the Jiang Zuo Alliance under the alias Mei Chang Su. Twelve years later, he returns to the capital under yet another alias, Su Zhe. His goal is to prove his family and soldiers their innocence. Known to be one of the smartest people alive, the princes, Yu and Tai Zi, fight for his aid to win the throne. Despite Yu and Tai Zi being the most likely to become the next king, he secretly assists his friend Xiao Jing Yan, the unfavoured prince, and helps him rise in power. Slowly, one by one, Chang Su helps Jing Yan remove his enemies while trying to hide his identity. As his body gets weaker and weaker, will he ever be able to see the day his family and army are proven their innocence?

Hu Ge chose this drama because his fans thought that Mei Chang Su's experience and his personal experience is very similar. In 2006, Hu Ge was in a car accident. The right part of his face was nearly destroyed. He had to undergo many procedures and over a year of recovery to fix his face. Mei Chang Su also went through a major accident that nearly took his life, and his appearance needed to be fixed. Hu Ge's superb portrayal of Chang Su is partly due to their similar experience. This drama solidified his career and is now renowned for his superb acting. I love a historical Chinese drama called Empress In the Palace because of the perfect acting and details and its witty characters. In my opinion, no drama could hold a candle to it, except for Nirvana In Fire. Nirvana In Fire is packed with clever, manipulative people. This truly is a masterpiece and I hope that people continue to support Hu Ge because he is a great person and a great actor.
